Fabriano Industrial/Medieval Handmade Paper Demo

August 11 (Saturday)
3:00pm - 5:00pm

Location: Artspeaks Tent
Workshop type: Demo
Cost: Free

This demo with Lorenzo Santoni is a rare opportunity to see and learn the traditional industrial/medieval process of making handmade paper, developed in Fabriano, Italy. There will be a particular emphasis on making watercolour paper. Participants will have a chance to try their hand at making paper under Lorenzo’s direction.

Lorenzo Santoni originally studied agronomy and then worked in the solar-panel mounting business but wanted to do something different. His grandfather was a traditional papermaker. Lorenzo did a six-month internship of the craft in Italy under the guidance of master papermaker, Luigi Mecella. At age 27, he was the youngest professional handmade papermaking master based in Fabriano. Lorenzo participates in international events in Europe, Canada and the US, demonstrating and teaching the technique of handmade papermaking.
